Finishes
The importance of finishing a product is not only the visible top coat but equally the pre treatment of the steelwork.
Finishes Available
We are now able to offer three different finishes, to give you maximum choice
- New Zinc Rich Primer and Polyester Powder Coating
- Hot Dipped Galvanising
- Hot Dipped Galvanising and Polyester Powder Coating
Zinc Rich Primer and Polyester Powder Coating
A chip-free and robust finish which can stand up to the toughest of knocks and scrapes. Here, a zinc powder is sprayed onto the steel and then heated so the particles partially melt and then a top Polyester Powder Coat is applied. This allows the the Zinc and Polyester particles to fuse together, giving a colourful and smooth protective finish, with outstanding durability and years of hassle free use.
Hot Dipped Galvanising
A widely used protective treatment which gives a tough industrial finish. Galvanising is the process of applying zinc at very high temperatures to steel to provide a strong and protective corrosive coat. Resistant to aggresive handling with low maintenance required. It is ideal for industrial locations and extreme weather conditions such as near the coast.
Polyester Powder Coating
Polyester powder coating involves spraying finely ground dry powder onto the required galvanised part and heated so that the particles melt and fuse into an even coat. In combination with hot dipped galvanising, powder coating allows for a coloured top coat whilst providing a pretective finish for external conditions.

Cladding Available
PET Cladding
Our standard shelters come with 5mm thick clear PET (Polythene trephthalate) cladding - a thermoplastic polymer resin. PET is far superior to standard ploycarbonate:
- It is fracture and shatter resistant
- Has excellent impact resistance
- Non-combustable - fire resistant (Y1 fire rating)
- Environmentally friendly and 100% recyclable
For our bespoke canopies, along with 5mm clear, we offer 5mm Opal, Smoke Grey Tinted and Bronze Tinted PET.
Clear and Opal PET are also availabe in 8mm thick, which is ideal for for flat or shallow curved roofs.
At this time, we are the only UK company who is able to offer 8mm thick Opal PET.
Filon GRP Cladding
Filon is a new cladding option available to Urban Engineering that has been successfully installed on a number of our bespoke canopies. Filon is Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) which is available in either an Opaque or Translucent finish.
Filon is an extremely strong and robust cladding option with good UV resistance properties.
Filon complies with the UK Building Regulaions and BS476 fire tests.
TWINFIX Glazing Bars
We use Twinfix glazing bars to fix PET and Filon cladding to our bespoke canopies. It is designed to support solid cladding materials for both flat and curved roofs.
Twinfix allows for movement during temperature changes and offers flex in windy conditions with the rubber seals not damaging the glazing surface.
Colourcoat HPS200 Plastisol Cladding
Plastisol cladding is ideal for use as roofing on our canopies and shelters. It offers extreme resistance to damage and good climatic protection. It has a life expectancy of up to 40 years when correctly maintained.
Plastisol sheets consist of sheet steel that is hot dipped and then coated with an alloy compromising of zic and aluminium.
